1. How did you come up with your blog name?
There isn't a story behind my blog name. I always think written word is the most powerful tool. It can bring people together or take them apart. It can tell a story that forever lives in your heart. So I guess that's why I named my blog The Magic Of Words.
2. What genre/subject matter do you read and review most on your blog?
My heart always belongs to high fantasy although I do read and review a bit of everything.
3. Name the 3 books you're excited for in 2014!
Let's see, right off the top of my head, I'd say The Winner's Curse (read the sample chapters online and fell in love with it and can't wait to continue), The Kiss of Deception (a runaway princess, a jilted prince and an assasin---> YES please) and Forbidden (belly dancing and forbidden romance--->I'm in).
4. Where in the world are you blogging from?
Sunny Southern California. It's ironic that I live in CA as heat is my enemy =(
5. Tell us -- how did you get into blogging in the first place?
I remember I wanted to talk to someone about the book that I just read. I had so many feels that I needed to say it out loud or write it down. And since back then talking with someone wasn't an option (it was late at night and my friends don't have the same passion for reading as I do) so I went online and I accidentally came across a book blog. I thought it was a great idea and there my friends, my blog was born =)
6. Apart from reading, what other hobbies/interests do you have?
Listening to music and learning to play an instrument. However if I have a lot of time on my hands, I'd love to visit every country in the world. I just love traveling because I love to meet new people and see new places. And it's always nice to experience new cultures and cuisines =)
7. If you were stuck on a deserted island, which books would you bring with you?
If I could, I'd bring all the books that I own. Anyway, I guess I'd bring all of J. R. R. Tolkien's books and Jane Austen's books, The Arabian Nights and The Complete Sherlock Holmes.
8. If you were stuck in some dangerous situation (like a fire, a sinking ship, a warzone), which book boy or girl would you want to come and save you?
Just one. Ok I'd go with Percy Jackson. Well since he's a demigod (son of Poseidon), I think he can keep me safe.
9. You’re attending a party with your friends. Suddenly, the DJ changes the song and it’s YOUR song – what song would that be?
Right at this moment, Counting Stars by OneRepublic.
10. What 3 movies would you love to have your favorite author write into books, or vice versa?
I'd love to see the Lumatere Chronicles by Melina Marchetta, Seven Realms by Cinda William Chima and Study series by Maria V. Snyder come to screen.
About movie to book, I can't think of any =/

Love-a-Thon Mini Challenge #1: Book Spine Poetry
I love spine poetry. It's such a fun challenge :D. Here's mine

Love-a-Thon Mini Challenge #2: Book Valentines
For this challenge, I've to write a love letter to my book boyfriend. And to prevent the jealousy from other book boyfriends, I won't say whom this letter is for. So, are you guys ready to read my heart and I hope you aren't running away from me after reading this letter? ;)
My Dearest Mystery Book Boyfriend,
I always think love letters are cliche so you can guess how much I love you to go this far, to embarrass myself in front of the whole world. I don't regret writing this letter since for you my love, I'd do anything (*whisper* just don't ask me to go die okay, I'm scared to live far away from you). It's just sad that you don't know about me and I know so much about you. I'm proud to say I KNOW YOU (oh no, I'm not a crazy stalker, so no worries my love, last time I checked, my sanity is still intact). To be honest, at first I didn't care about you, oh no I'm not kidding. You were such an ass--- and just a jerk and not to mention your manners, oh my, were so rude. Opps don't get mad, that was before, just please let me continue ... and I don't even know when it began but you've started to grow on me. Before I knew what was going on, you'd captured my heart completely. You're smart (no matter what dangerous situation you are in, you always get out safely) and so good at fighting (no one in the entire kingdom can win against you) that my heart is fluttering nonstop (I hope I don't have a heart attack later on).
So here I just wanted to let you know that I'm so grateful to know you. I hope you and your queen have a happy life. And thank you for ruining other guys for me. Excuse me while I go cry in the corner.
All my love,
-A

Love-a-Thon Mini Challenge #3: Mad Lib
This is the last challenge for today. So here we go.
As we escaped, we turned up the radio because LET IT GO came on and made me CRY. Everything was extremely smooth sailing until an ANTEATER appeared in the middle of the road. We swerved to avoid it, but while AARON stayed on BICYCLE, I got thrown onto my side in the woods.
I couldn't get up, and felt TIRED as I lay there staring up at the trees. What was I going to do? I heard a WHISPER among the leaves, and felt HAPPY. Surely, this was going to be my end. As my eyes fluttered shut, the last thing I saw was a head of RED hair and BLUE eyes.
When I woke up again, I was on a HAMMOCK. My body hurt a whole lot less, and I could sit up. There was a CLOCK and CAT in the room, along with ICECREAM and TEA. The door suddenly opened to reveal FINNIKIN, a concerned look on his face. I blushed and averted my gaze, but he SANG A FEW SONGS and said, "Don't be shy. It's okay."
He came over to sit by me, and we started talking after I told him my name. We chatted about BOOKS, MUSIC and PRANKS and realized we had a ton in common! I thought he was SWEET and couldn't help feeling a little swoony.
Just as he reached out for my hand, the door crashed open and in came MAXON. "Don't let him charm you away, my love!" He yelled, running at FINNIKIN. They each had FORKS in their hands and began to fight. "Stop!", I yelled, feeling so SAD. They didn't listen to me. Before I could intervene, FINNIKIN fell to the floor and disappeared in a cloud of smoke.
"What was that?" I asked, staring at the empty space. MAXON dropped his weapon, and came over to me. "Magic, but you are safe now, AM." He hugged me close, and I suddenly knew that this was the real deal and not just a dream.
Just as I KNEW YOU WERE TROUBLE started playing in my head, I woke up. I cursed my BAD luck. Why had it only been just a dream?
Percy Jackson is an EXCELLENT choice! I love Rick Riordan's books, and Percy reminds me of my husband (and I remind him of Annabeth, so it works out). Also, high five for high fantasy! I love reading fantasy novels.
ReplyDeleteaww you guys are such a cute couple. I've not read his other books (the heroes of Olympus) yet...will try to read them sometimes this year since he is my all time fav author =) Yeah *high five* for fantasy, love it always.
DeleteHmmm. Since you're a fantasy fan... Would you have been writing about Hector (Fire & Thorns series) in your Valentine? It's a lovely letter :)
ReplyDeleteLOL is it that obvious? I tried to exaggerate a little bit about how rude he was at the beginning but still couldn't fool you =D
DeleteI love your Book Valentine! It was sweet and funny (Also, I'm glad your sanity is in tact! lol)

ReplyDeleteAnd YES! The Study series - I love it so much. I literally just pushed it on someone last week.
You've not read Finnikin yet OMG what was wrong with you j/k...but seriously though read it as soon as you've a chance.
DeleteI love your valentine letter! Oh and why didn't I think of bringing all the Jane Austen books with me to a desserted island? Great mad libs and lovely book spine poetry as well! :)
ReplyDeleteFollowed you on blogger! Love meeting new book blogs through Loveathon <3
-Kimi at Geeky Chiquitas
I've not read any of Jane Austen's books...always putting it off due to laziness but I think if I've to die there on that island, then there would be no excuse to delay any further.
DeleteLet It Go is a GREAT song choice, just saying. I love belting it out in the shower!
ReplyDeleteI'm obsessed with Let It Go, just couldn't stop listening to it =)
DeleteYour poem is short, sweet and absolutely wonderful! It's definitely cute :D
