In this timeless new trilogy about love and sacrifice, a princess must find her place in a reborn world.

In a society steeped in tradition, Princess Lia’s life follows a preordained course. As First Daughter, she is expected to have the revered gift of sight—but she doesn’t—and she knows her parents are perpetrating a sham when they arrange her marriage to secure an alliance with a neighboring kingdom—to a prince she has never met.

On the morning of her wedding, Lia flees to a distant village. She settles into a new life, hopeful when two mysterious and handsome strangers arrive—and unaware that one is the jilted prince and the other an assasin sent to kill her. Deception abounds, and Lia finds herself on the brink of unlocking perilous secrets—even as she finds herself falling in love.
Hi everyone, I read this book a while back. I don't remember when exactly I read this, in May or April. I just know that I read it as soon as I got approved on netgalley. Then I realized that this book is released in July so I didn't post the review till now. Anyway if you want to know why this book is a hit for me then continue reading =)

I don't normally request book for review because I don't like the pressure of reading ARCs. But I had to request The Kiss of Deception. I just knew after reading the synopsis that I'd enjoy reading this book since it's totally right up my alley (fantasy, princess/prince and assassin.)

Lia, the princess, well I liked her because she isn't a spoiled, whiny MC. I wish I could love her but for some reason I just couldn't. She seems smart because she knows how to leave false tracks but the fact that she doesn't know her running away from the marriage is going to affect her country made me rethink about my opinion on her. Can someone be both naive and smart at the same time? I don't know. It seemed to me that Lia doesn't think thing through.

Anyway let's talk about the love triangle since if you've read the synopsis it sounds like a recipe for a love triangle. That's what I thought at first too but I was wrong. It's not really a love triangle because Lia has a pretty much clear idea on who is the one. And the reason why I liked this book so much was because I got deceived on who is who. I got the prince and the assassin mixed up. I thought I had a pretty idea on who was the prince and who was the assassin. However when I got a little half way in when everything is unveiled, I was shocked to find out I was wrong the whole time. I was so speechless because how, why did I assume that was the prince? I actually went back and reread it to see what I missed because I just couldn't believe that I'd missed such a major clue like that. Well, what can I say, Mary Pearson is brilliant writer because she has written this book so well that I'd been fooled. Well done, Mary. I'm looking forward to the second book. Seriously can't wait to see what happens next.

As of conclusion, if you are a fan of high fantasy then definitely check this book out. Or even if you don't really like fantasy check this out also because the whole deceiving thing sounds interesting right =)
