GR
The Shadow Fold, a swathe of impenetrable darkness, crawling with monsters that feast on human flesh, is slowly destroying the once-great nation of Ravka.

Alina, a pale, lonely orphan, discovers a unique power that thrusts her into the lavish world of the kingdom’s magical elite—the Grisha. Could she be the key to unravelling the dark fabric of the Shadow Fold and setting Ravka free?

The Darkling, a creature of seductive charm and terrifying power, leader of the Grisha. If Alina is to fulfill her destiny, she must discover how to unlock her gift and face up to her dangerous attraction to him.

But what of Mal, Alina’s childhood best friend? As Alina contemplates her dazzling new future, why can’t she ever quite forget him?

Glorious. Epic. Irresistible. Romance.

You know sometimes when you read a book for just a few pages but you know right then that you're going to love that book. Well that was how I felt about Shadow and Bone (and not to mention the beautiful cover had already captured my heart. That typography guys. Just perfect.) The story is really interesting that I read it in one sitting. It has a little bit of everything: adventure, secret, betrayal, romance. I don't want to go into too much details because that will spoil everything. But I'll tell you this, the plot and the romance, my friend, you are in for a treat  =)

The Grisha rank did give me a little bit trouble at the beginning because there are so many to remember. It took me awhile to grab who is who and what ability they have. Mal didn't leave much of an impression on me but the Darkling, ahh that's another story. I completely fell for the Darkling, his mysterious, his personality and his name "Darkling"--> swoon worthy is all I can say. I want more of him and I want Alina and the Darkling to be together. I don't know if it will ever be possible but I hope and hope for the Darkling to have some feelings toward Alina (crossed my fingers here). Alina, at first I liked her but as the story goes on, I felt somewhat like she's playing a damsel in distress kind of too much for my taste. And Mal I hope I can know more about him in the next book because right now all I can say about him is MEH.

Overall I did enjoy Shadow and Bone. Lovely world building (different types of Grisha and the world that Leigh created is fantastic). A hint of love triangle I want to say but I'm not even sure myself since the Darkling is just so, I mean it's not easy to figure out what he's actually thinking. Anyway highly recommend to high fantasy fans out there, you'll love Shadow and Bone.

  1. Definitely, and when you can tell you're not going to like it. I started reading it ages ago but didn't really give it a chance, so I think I'll give it another go sometime this year, and I'll probably enjoy it a lot more. I think you have to be in a right mood for books like these. Glad you enjoyed it though! :)

    1. I'm glad that you will give it another try and I know what you mean since I'm a mood reader myself. If I'm not in a right mood then even if I read high fantasy which is my fav genre I'm still not going to enjoy it.
