You stop fearing the devil when you’re holding his hand…

Nothing much exciting rolls through Violet White’s sleepy, seaside town… until River West comes along. River rents the guest house behind Violet’s crumbling estate, and as eerie, grim things start to happen, Violet begins to wonder about the boy living in her backyard.

Is River just a crooked-smiling liar with pretty eyes and a mysterious past? Or could he be something more?

Violet’s grandmother always warned her about the Devil, but she never said he could be a dark-haired boy who takes naps in the sun, who likes coffee, who kisses you in a cemetery... who makes you want to kiss back.

Violet’s already so knee-deep in love, she can’t see straight. And that’s just how River likes it.

Blending faded decadence and the thrilling dread of gothic horror, April Genevieve Tucholke weaves a dreamy, twisting contemporary romance, as gorgeously told as it is terrifying—a debut to watch.

It is simply AMA-Zing. I just finished this book last night and oh my I couldn't get this book out of my head. Totally having a book hangover.  The ending is killing me, I need the second book now. Summer 2014 is just too far away, I want more of Violet and River. You can guess how much I loved this book right so if you've not read it yet, you should especially if you're a fan of Gothic. And hey since this month is October, it's a perfect time to pick up this book. Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea will send the chill down your spine with all its secret and murders. So let yourself be warned.

You know, the feeling that something is wrong and you can't tell what it is, yeah that's how I felt the first half of the book. I was on the edge the whole time while reading this book because I didn't know what would happen next, what the mischief would be and who would be the victim this time. River is so calm, I mean he is way too calm while around him so many bad things happened that made me shivering. Because if he's normal, at least he should have some reactions like shock, scared or surprised. But no, he shows no emotion like it's just a normal thing, no big deal at all. He even seems to enjoy it. Ok no more River and his weirdness, let's talk about Violet should we? I loved Violet, despite all that happened she can still think straight and hasn't gone mad yet. I think Violet is so brave because if it were me, hell I'd pack my bag and be gone a long time ago. There's no way I could stay especially with that dick as a brother. That eerie mansion, that town and that sea...gave me the creeps. Usually I love the sea but the sea here in the book didn't offer me the calm relaxing feeling but it gave me nightmares instead.

The first half of the book you might find it a little bit slow pacing but don't worries because when the secrets start to unveil, your eyes will be glue to the page. You will keep reading and reading and before you know it, the story ends =( It'll leave you speechless with its cliffhanger because this is not the end but just the beginning. So if you're on the hunt for some thrillers, plot twisted then you've come to the right place =)

  1. Great review! Glad you enjoyed it, too. I finally got around to reading it a month ago, and though I found Violet a little condescending at times, I did enjoy it. Totally twisted, and a little psychotic, definitely a perfect Halloween read. The brother, whose name I don't remember now, (yeah, that's how much I liked him), that explains it really, haha. Is it bad I wanted something to happen to him? :)

    1. Not at all, the way he treated Violet at the beginning. How could he...UGH I just want to kill him. Well at least he's getting better at the end.
