Q: How do you handle a book you don’t like? Do you DNF or do you power through?

I have no problem with DNF books. If I read something that I don't like then I will not torture myself to finish it. Besides reading is what I love and I make time for it so I don't want to waste my precious time to read something that I don't like.

In some cases, if the book/series has a lot of raves then I do try to read it. But still half way through the book or series I give up, I just can't go on. It is so hard to read through when it's just that nothing "clicked" with me =/

  1. I agree! There's no point of reading a book you hate when there are so many more books out there that you potentially really like. Then again, I do get extremely guilty when the DNF is an ARC and that typically pushes me far enough to finish or at least make it 1/3 of the way to the book.

    1. I know what you mean when it is an ARC. But then you don't like it so don't be hard on yourself to power through. If it's me I just let the publisher know that that book is not my cup of tea =\

  2. It's tough to keep reading when you don't click or connect with a book. A lot of times, though, I remain hopeful that it will get better. Most of the time, I leave a book unfinished because of different reasons, which you can find here: http://readingismytreasure.blogspot.com/2013/08/feature-and-follow-6-how-do-you-handle.html

  4. I think the biggest factor if I power through something or not is if I've agreed to a review. And that's only because I want to make sure the review has a fair shot - and not just a bad perception from the first few pages. But sometimes I guilt myself into finishing because I love the author. It's hard to accept that sometimes my beloved writers create something that I don't like!

I try to power through if it's a review copy that I requested otherwise life is too short :)

    1. For me I'm just going to email the publisher and let them know that the book is not my cup of tea and thanks them for giving me a chance to read it. I'm not going to write a review since I don't even finish the book but DNF it.

  7. I agree, I don't see why I should waste time on something I don't enjoy when my tbr pile is huge. Reading is relaxing for me and books I don't like are not fun! Usually I will give it 50-100 pages but as I'm picky, I've only had 1 DNF.

    1. Good for you that so far you only DNF one book. For me I don't even know how many =( and the downside of DNF book is that it can easily kill my mood which lead me right into reading slump =X

  8. Pretty much agree, don't like to DNF but will rather than waste time on something I don't like.
