Q: Have you ever read a book that you thought you would hate — ?
Did you end up hating it? Did you end up loving it? Or would you never
do that?
No, I just don't see the reason why I should read a book that nothing about it would catch my interest. I only read books that I think that I am going to love. Sorry that it may sound unfair to other books but seriously I don't have a lot of free time. My reading time is so precious and I want to make sure that I will enjoy every minute of it.
Good answer. You have to follow your instincts.

No, I absolutely understand that, and I don't think it sounds harsh at all! I do read books I think I'll like, because they DO still catch my interest and I'm the sort of person who reads books because of like, the tiniest things. I once read a novel written by an author whose other books I HATED because there was a ursine shifter in them, and I just went like, "OMG A BEARSHIFTER A WEREBEAR I NEED TO READ THIS I DON'T CARE HOW AWFUL IT WILL BE OKAY!" and it was kinda awful, but well. XD Back then I really had the time to do those sort of things.

Hi!

What about in High School or Junior High though? Wasn't there a book you *HAD* to read for class that just didn't appeal to you, synopsis-wise, that you ended up loving?
ReplyDeleteFor me, it happened all the time. I was rarely excited about the plots of the books we read, but I loved quite a few of them. Grapes of Wrath, as an example XD

Those required reading, I didn't judge or gave my opinions on whether I liked it or not based on synopsis/cover. They are classics and they are taught in school for a reason. Actually if I remember correctly, I was excited to read them so I would know what lesson/hidden meaning was behind it.
DeleteI agree! I'm quite a picky reader. I only pick books I'm sure I'll love (except for those few risks I take every now and then)
